Oh, blog. You’ve gotten me through the best and the worst of times. And you’ve always been there for me. Patiently waiting for me to come back, to write, to listen to my life’s happenings. So much has been happening! I wish I could blog more. But I’ve had to seriously re-prioritize my (much abbreviated) free time.
Rest assured, I’m not ready to give up blogging. But I can’t say the thought hasn’t crossed my mind.
This new job, man. There’s nothing to complain about – I genuinely dig this new gig. There’s pretty much only one downside, and it’s that I can’t wear makeup to cover the sleepy bags under my eyes (fact: I bought my first Olay Age Defying under eye gel the other day)(I’m too young for wrinkles!)(I need a facial).
Does being an adult mean getting wrinkles and less sleep?!
The reality is that I work more hours in the day than I don’t, and I’m on call when I’m not physically in the clean room. So I’ve had to adjust my lifestyle to make it work. Especially the running aspect of my life.
And I’m makin’ the workout work out!
Because of that whole being-on-call thing, I take my pager (work phone) with me on my runs. Sometimes, that means in my iFitness belt at 4:30AM. Other times, when I’m on the treadmill in our apartment complex.
Can I just say how much I love having access to a fitness center that’s (clean, quiet, and) open all the time? Such a huge perk to apartment living.
So okay, fine, maybe running at 4:30AM is slightly more difficult than whenever I wanted when I was a grad student, but when there’s something you love, you just do it.
I’m super lucky to have Weez to run with on days when we overlap at home. And I’m super pumped to have a race on the horizon to keep me focused and motivated:
17 weeks and some change. Aka, it’s training cycle time!
So stick with me, Blog. Because I’m not ready to give you up just yet, and I have a feeling we’ll have lots of good training stories to exchange over the next 17 weeks :)
