It’s backpacking season, baby!

on

The Weez family (love the sound of that) went for a somewhat stressful run this morning. Cabo, who’s always been a great running buddy, was giving us all sorts of fits on the trails. She zigzaged all over the place, darted into a field of birds, dove into a muddy river despite us saying no, and plowed into my shin, knocking me over (seriously) at one point. And I’ve got an impressive shiner to prove it.

Dysfunctional family run, FTW!

In other news: we’re going backpacking this weekend! First trip of the season! Thanks to our REI dividends and some generous gift cards over the holiday season, we purchased a new 20*F down sleeping bag and a water filtration unit. Slowly but surely, we’re acquiring stellar backpacking gear!

I live for backpacking season. It’s by far my favorite thing to do in Colorado…

I love tired shoulders from carrying my pack for miles.
I love resting on logs and using my pack as a chair.
I love watching my footing and scraping off the mud if I trip.

I love cooking over campfires or hunched over my jetboil.
I love curling up in my sleeping bag and the smell of the woods on your skin.

I love taking down our tent in the morning and putting it back up in a new location in the evening.
Most of all, I love being in the vast, gorgeous wilderness with my best friend.

What’s your favorite outdoor activity?
What do you love most about summer time?
Colorado peeps: where are some of your fave hiking/camping locations?

I can’t wait to go camping out here! You’ll have to tell me the best places (or I’ll come back and check these comments)

I really love the Maroon Bells, Gore Lake, the Great Sand Dunes, and backpacking up to the treeline on various 14ers (highly recommend!). Let’s backpack together this summer!

You have every reason to love it! Look at how gorgeous the scenery is!

  3. I love EVERYTHING about summertime! Mainly just being outside in the sun while reading, blogging, running, playing tennis, campfires, watching the sunset or just sitting and doing nothing at all. Is it summer yet?

Aww this post made me smile. It was so sweet. I’ve never been backpacking or camping. Hoping to change that this summer!
