This 5K was hosted by Odell Brewery Company and Partners Mentoring Youth, and I had a blast. Two friends of mine ran as well, and Weez and Cabo came to spectate.
There were 2800 runner/walkers (that’s a lot for a local 5K! yay local businesses!), and the race directors wanted everyone to stay on the sidewalk or 4 foot shoulder of the road. Needless to say, the race was packed the whole time and it was hard to pass folks. But I still ran hard and weaved my way through like a champ.
I loved seeing all the green shirts and shorts and hats!
My coach says “there’s only one way to race a 5K… go out hard and try to hold on.” So that I did. I ran hard from start to stop and forced myself to surge whenever I felt myself slowing down.
Mile 1: 6:32
Mile 2: 6:41
Mile 3: 6:40
Finish time: 20:32 (6:36 min/mile pace).
65/2531 overall place. 5/522 age group.
My two friends ran great as well, smashing their goal times. Afterwards, we enjoyed our complimentary Odell beers before heading downtown Ft. Collins to watch the St. Patty’s Day Parade.
Cabo was lookin’ pretty dang cute in her shamrock bandana. She got so much attention and lovin’. She’s a lucky pup.
Overall, it was a great day and a great race! I pulled 52 seconds off my 5K last month, and I hope to break 20:00 at my next 5K in April. I see a lot more hard work and tough training in my future! Bring it on!
