Track workouts are better with friends

For the first time in a long time, I slept straight through the night. I was out like a light. I don’t even remember falling asleep, but next thing I knew my alarm was going off and I was confused that it was actually, in fact, 6:30am. What a refreshing feeling that was! I wish that happened more often! Don’t get me wrong, I sleep really well, but I usually wake up every night to either a.) use the bathroom or b.) tend to crying Cabo/let her out/coax her back to sleep.

Anyhoo, when my alarm went off, I popped right out of bed, excited for today’s track workout. I was ultra excited for the workout not only because it was a new workout I’ve never tried before, but I was going to have company! Weez is cleared to start running again and our friend John wants to get in better shape. Running in general is so much more fun for me when I have company.

The three of us enjoyed the pretty sunrise as we ran our warm up to the track.

The track workout was basically 150m sprints, with 75m recoveries… times 30… at 6:30 pace. Totaling about 6000m. I felt really good the whole time. The boys would run every other lap with me, which was fun. They kept it fresh.
I love the track I can run on out here. The local HS takes great care of their infield and track lanes, and there’s rarely anyone on it when I’m there.

Except for this nice old man named Jeff. He’s probably in his 70s, and he’s out there on that track almost every time I’m there, shuffling along in lane 2 (which leads me to believe he’s on there a lot more than just once a week). We always exchange friendly ‘hello’s and ‘good jobs’. And he always says “this is as fast as it goes!” :) Still, his dedication and passion for running inspire me.

Do you sleep through the night or wake up at least once like me?
Is there a familiar face you see at your gym/track/pool?
Tell me about your last track workout! What’d you do?

Glad you got a good nights rest! Sounds like that man is a sweety, nice to see familiar faces during workouts. :D

  2. The last track workout I did was Yasso 800s, but it wasn’t actually on a track (there aren’t any that are super close to me). Was still tough though!

I generally sleep through the night, though I have been having trouble sleeping for the past several months. Very rarely do I wake up to use the bathroom (really only if I’ve been out drinking – which I rarely drink anymore so it doesn’t happen!). There is a familiar face I see at the gym. A guy who is 92. Sweet man. I haven’t been to the track in a LONG time. I need to find a new one when I move.
