7 mile tempo run and 7 month old Cabo

on

Despite losing an hour of sleep in the middle of the night because of crying Cabo (poor girl), we got up early for a 7 mile tempo. I have a love/hate relationship with tempos. They really make you dig deep and sustain a hard effort when all you want to do is settle back down to a comfortable pace. It’s a real mind game for me. But at the end of each tempo, I love how strong my legs feel.

Today’s Tempo: 2 mile normal pace, 2 miles at a medium/strong effort, 1 mile fast/hard effort (I was almost sprinting by the end), followed by a 2 mile cool down. The tempo run felt solid and maybe I won’t be so intimidated next time I see a tempo on my workout schedule. Baby steps to gaining speed confidence.

Cabo the pup is 7 months old now, which means… she’s not really a puppy anymore (tear, tear!).  That sweet little ball of fluff grew so fast in those few few months, and now she’s as tall and long as most black labs, but still quite the lanky little one.

I love looking through all the photos we have of her (proud mama) and seeing how much she’s grown. The picture on the left was taken at 3 months (15lbs). The picture on the right was taken at 7 months (45lbs) :)

Even her cute little face has grown up over the months…
I’m so glad we got her as a puppy, but it certainly hasn’t been easy. She still cries at night sometimes and the battle of “don’t chew on human hands” rages on. But ya know what? I wouldn’t change it for anything. Especially because those crazy puppy moments are balanced out by moments like these.
She’s such a cuddler :)

How was your run/workout this morning?
Do you prefer tempos or track workouts?
If you’ve raised a puppy, how long did it take till they outgrew the “chew/jump up on people” phase?

  1. 1. Meh. But 10 miles to the good, I guess.
    2. Track better than tempo because they’re easier. I guess that means tempos are probably for me.
    3. Maybe a year? Just thinking about having a puppy makes me kind of tired. Kind of like a newborn, although you can’t put a newborn in the back yard and then go out to dinner.

Nice job on the run … as much as I hate tempos, even if I don’t hit my times I’m on cloud 9 the rest of the day because I know I at least tried.

How was your run/workout this morning? Today was an off day. Off days STANK. /:
Do you prefer tempos or track workouts? I have both on my training plan. But I always seem to get more excited about track workouts than I do tempo runs.

Nice job on your tempo run! I sometimes struggle with speed work. I haven’t done any since I moved and am guessing the altitude is going to kick my butt.

Cabo is so friggin’ cute. We need a doggie playdate!
