Finally, a running related post!

on

I’ve got this tiny, little thing called a “marathon” coming up on Sunday. As in, like, 2 days. The RnR Denver Marathon!

I’ll admit, going to Spain for two weeks, then driving home to Ohio, getting married (yayyy!!), flying to Mexico for our honeymoon, driving back to Colorado, then adopting a 12 week old puppy was KIND of a lot to cram into a 4 week span. Much less the 4 weeks before a marathon.

But I wouldn’t have changed a bit. And never for a moment did I consider dropping down to the half, or backing out. I love running and I knew we could handle the training no matter where we were.

So we got in the important stuff: two 20 milers, a 19, an 18, and the ~24 I ran during the Colorado relay. But the last 3 weeks? We missed a handful or more of runs (try, 11). I feel like I’ve lost a solid chunk of my base, and the thought of running 26.2 miles is intimidating.

I’d say this is probably the least confident I’ve ever felt going into a marathon. I’m a little scared.

But the reassuring news is I know how much it’s gonna hurt (so I’m mentally prepared), and Weez will be running with me. And, I’ve done this before :) I know how magical the experience is. And that alone, is enough to excite me and push those uncertainties aside.

Okay, it’s time to get serious. Time to really get down to mental preparation. Time to carbo load like a boss and chug gallons of water like a fish. Time to legitimately think about race day goals. Time to figure out what the heck I’m gonna wear.

All that goodness in a blog post, so check back again tomorrow!

Today, we’re going to the expo… if anyone else is running Denver, holler at me! I’d love to meet up with you! :)
