Spain Trip! (Part 1 of 3)

I had an absolutely incredible time in Spain. The time of my life. That place is amazing. I could ramble on and on, but decided to break the trip recap down into 3 shorter posts (more pics, less words = better) from the 3 different “parts” of the trip:

Part 1: Sitges, Spain and the academic conference I attended (presenting my research)
Part 2: Being in Barcelona, Spain (food, touristy stuff, etc)
Part 3: Running in Barcelona (and the 2 “Tour de Barcelona’s” we went on)

We spent the first 5 days of the 10 day trip in Sitges, Spain. A Mediteranean coastal town, with white sand beaches, rolling hills, narrow cobblestone roads, and white buildings with colorful shutters.
We went to the beach and played in the waves. We ate amazing food. I sipped real sangria for the first time. And we wandered the narrow city streets of Old Town.

The view from our hotel balcony was, mmmm, awesome…
See that hill on the left? We ran up it one morning :) Wowza the views…
We also ran along the Med Sea, on the boardwalk…
The conference was great. I met a ton of scientists and learned a BUNCH. Of the 200+ delegates at the conference from 40 different countries, I was one of the only <10 from America. Definitely an honor.
The night after the poster sesh, we went out for tapas to celebrate…
The rest of the conference wrapped up nicely. On the last night that my coadvisor was with us, we took him out to dinner as a thank you.
I can’t say enough how grateful I am that I was able to attend and present my research. Check #25 off my list!

After the conference, we packed up our bags, wandered our way down to the train station, and began our journey to Barcelona for 5 amazing days of site seeing, sangrias, and sweating (seriously, that city is HOT this time of year).
(For the 10 day trip, I brought only that backpack! Thanks dad, for teaching me the importance of packing light!)

Part 2 of 3 will come next!
