Embarking on #23 (from my 25 before 25)

Bye guys! For the next four days, we’ll be in one of the most breathtaking places in Colorado… the Maroon Bells!

We spent much of last night strategizing, grocery shopping, and preparing our packs.
After much deliberation, we came up with a solid meal plan for the journey. Seems like a lot, but this is 36 meals plus snacks! 3 meals/day, 4 days, 3 people.
I’ve wanted to go on a multi-day backpacking trip for so many years now, which is why it made its way onto my 25 Before 25. (I only have a few more weeks to check stuff off my list!)

I’ve gone on many 1-2 night backpacking trips, but nothing quite like this :) This’ll be my first long backpacking adventure, and I couldn’t be more excited to share the experience with Weez and my trail guiding/mountain man of a brother, Will.

We’ll be following the gorgeous Maroon Bell Loop, a 30-mile trek that will take us up and over 4 passes and 10,000 ft of elevation gain. All while carrying our 30-40lb packs. I can’t wait!

We’ll be enjoying the trip over 4 days/3 nights, which means backpacking anywhere between 8-10 miles a day depending on side day trips and whatnot.

I can’t wait to see what lies ahead for us. I’ve heard so many wonderful things about this backpacking loop. Life is meant to be lived to the max and this is the stuff I live for. Trips like these remind me how lucky I am to live in Colorado. And how lucky I am to have people to share these experiences with.

When we get back, I’ll be sure to share tons of pictures and stories! Perhaps even a video. You know how I love making those things :)

What do you like to do, to live life to the max?
Have you gone on a multi-day backpacking trip before?
Where’d you go, and for how long?

Ooh, I love this type of list!

My recent trip to the Grand Canyon fits into this category nicely. We flew in a prop plane from Vegas to the rim, where we got in a helicopter that took us down to the Colorado River (I rode shotgun!), and then spent 3 days rafting. From there, jumped aboard a jetboat and finished in Lake Mead. 3 days of camping and quiet and all things beautiful :)

It will be a life changing experience. My father backpacked while he was in college and started me young, at 8 or 9. Now my boy and several of my co-workers have gotten hooked. The memories, shared struggles, and bonds that are made will last a lifetime.
