It’s been 6 weeks since my surgery and after a weekend like this, I can totally say I’m back to 110%, baby. I feel strong, my legs feel great, I’m BACK, and man it feels good.
I’ve been running… a lot! In fact, over the past 3 days I’ve gotten 21 miles in! I can’t stop smiling, I’ll say it again, man it feels good. Friday: 7.5 miles; Saturday: 9.5 miles; Sunday: 4 miles. I wanted to go for an open water swim with my new tri wetsuit on Saturday but the res was closed due to a triathlon (it’s that time of the year again!), so we threw on our running shoes, grabbed our hats, and hit the nearby trails.
After our run, we packed up our tent, sleeping bags, and camping gear and drove into the mountains to enjoy the most gorgeous evening of summer camping. Clear skies, cool but not cold temps, a warm fire. Nothing like sleeping under the stars and waking up with dirt on your face and smelling like campfire. Mmmm, summer how I’ve missed you. I could live like this forever.
When we woke up this morning (Sunday), we hiked the Twin Sisters. A nice 3.7 mile one-way hike to two peaks that stretch up to 11,400′. The weather was perfection and like all Colorado mountains, the views from the top were just breathtaking.
On the way up…
On the west sister (11,413ft), with the monster that is Longs Peak behind us.
On the east sister (11,428ft). We met this cool guy named Aaron who took this picture for us. I love hikers. They’re such a friendly bunch.
Once we got back to Boulder, we went for a quick 4 mile run with some friends and then stuffed our faces with left over birthday cake from Weez’s party on Friday night. And now I’m totally ready to pass out. What a long, active, but totally sweet weekend.
Ahh, another great weekend in the books :)
