National Running Day

Yesterday was National Running Day :) I celebrated by doing two very wonderful things.

1.) I went for a gorgeous, evening 70 minute trail run. I’ve had a lot on my mind lately so heading out and enjoying the trails was just what I needed. I love staring at the dirt trails, being completely engaged in where I need to place my feet. It’s like a trance… focused yet your mind is totally clear. I stopped to enjoy the brilliant summer sun setting over the Flatirons. I could have stood there all night, breathing in the warm summer air, listening to the wind, letting my mind wander. It’s places like this, why I love Boulder. It’s trails like those, why I love being a runner.

2.) I’ve thought long and hard about whether I want to still run a marathon this year, since I missed Boston. And the answer is heck YES. Pshh, like a little surgery could deviate me from running another marathon this year :P I really wanted to get out to Maine to run the MDI marathon with my girls (you know who you are :)), but with the med bills and wedding eating away at my funds, I just can’t wing a cross-country trip… (major bummer).

Fortunately because yesterday was National Running Day, all R’n’R marathon costs were discounted 26 bucks, so I took the plunge and registered for a marathon a little closer to home…

Both my roomie and Weez are registered too! My roomie is the reason why I got into marathon running, because we trained for my first marathon (the Boulder Backroads Marathon) together :) So I’m really excited to be running another marathon with her!

I hope you had a great National Running Day, too!
