Week One Down, One To Go

on

Thanks you for the love and support. I love reading every comment and linking back to your own blogs to read what you’ve been up to. Being bed rested means I’ve had a lot of down time (and will have another week of rest before I can go back to work) so I spend quite a bit of time online.

I’m an active person, so the doctor’s orders “2 weeks of no walking/standing for more than 30 minutes at a time” is difficult. What’s not difficult is the literal: it physically takes quite a bit out of me to go for my twice-daily 20 minute walks. Showering is the hardest 10 minutes of my morning. Sitting up out of bed sometimes requires a pep-talk. So following the literal instructions is not hard.

What is difficult is not being able to fully take care of myself, stand upright, stretch my exhausted lower back, fall asleep at night, and sleep on my side. But the good news is the first week of recovery is behind me… the surgeon said it’ll take two till I feel back to myself. First recovery week down, one more to go.

I can’t wait to sleep on my stomach again. That’ll be the day.

Anyways, with all this down time and sleepless nights I’ve spent a lot of time watching my favorite TV show on Weez’s Netflix: Scrubs.
I decided to start at the beginning and see how far I can get before I need to get a life. I’m pretty pumped, I’m already 41 episodes down. I’m so cool.

Besides spending my hours in bed watching Scrubs, I’ve also spent a lot of time playing Bananagrams. A fun game that if you haven’t invested in, you probably should. Weez usually wins, dad has to help me ‘cheat’, but most recently my mom has given me a good run for my money.

So I’m slowly making it down the road to recovery, anxious for normal night’s sleep and the day I don’t need as many pain meds as I’ve been requiring. But I’m gettin’ there!

My mom and dad leave tomorrow :( But I’ll be moving back into my apartment with my awesome roomie and her adorable dog :) I look forward to the puppy therapy!

Awesome that you’re well on your way back. Not sure what to think about Scrubs, since I’ve never seen it. I don’t know if I missed it, but I hope good news about the mass being non-cancerous is coming soon. Glad you’re doing well, see you in Maine!

Sorry you can’t be your typical active self right now, but it seems like you are handling it really well. I’m sure scrubs and puppy therapy will help significantly. Good luck with your recovery!

I totally steal Andrew’s Netflix too when I am sick. :) It is good for making you feel better. :) Oh man… I can’t even imagine not sleeping on my stomach… That would be so sad. :(

scrubs is a great way to pass the time. ugh, i’m so sorry that everything is so painful. but you have made it half way through recovery and (unlike a marathon) i’m sure that things will get better now that you’re past the half-way point.
