Road To Recovery

Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve blogged. Truth be told, I missed it! I’ve slowly gotten my strength back and while I was relaxing on the couch with my family last night, I decided I wanted to start blogging again :) Must mean I’m feeling better!

Two Thursdays ago, my life took an unexpected twist when the docs found an 8.5cm growth on my right ovary, the day before I was supposed to fly to Boston to run the Boston marathon. Last Thursday, I went into surgery and 2.5 hours later, I woke up with 5 incisions in my abdomen and the wonderful news that the growth appears to be benign and that I still have the ovary.

The pain management has been tough at times. I wasn’t sleeping much the first few nights, but every day is getting better. I’ve gotten out of the condo for 2 20 minute walks each day. I’m able to sit up and stand for longer periods of time (20-30 minutes). I mostly have my full appetite back!

I can’t tell you how thankful I am that my parents, brother, and Weez are out here with me through this whole thing. Recovery is smooth sailing when you’ve got 4 of your biggest fans, ready and willing to help you out of bed, lift things up for you, wake you to make sure you’re taking your medicine on time, cooking for you, and entertaining you while you lie in bed. I’m so grateful. I love you guys more than words.

The road to full recovery looks good and it’s been paved with wonderful emails/cards/chocolates/flowers/gifts from friends and family :) I’m so thankful. Your positive strength gives me strength. Every day gets better. Thanks, everyone!
