Blister update: I tried the Vaseline idea this morning for my 5 mile run. The verdict? While it sorta helped, I’m not sure this method will hold up for much more than 5 miles. I’ll give it another go on Saturday (11 miler planned). I’m also in the process of looking for new shoes…
In other news: yesterday was a big day for me, as I submitted my very first primary author scientific paper! If you’re a grad student, you know research takes a long time to get to the point of writing/publishing your work. I’ve been busting my hump and collaborating with some really fantastic scientists at another university for 2 years now, and it feels good to have it pay off :) I’m excited to start the next phase.
As the spring creeps closer and my knee injury seems more of a distant past, I’m getting really jazzed day dreaming about all the running goals I have this year. I’m training smarter, more well rounded, keeping up with my strengthening drills so that I can run HARD this year, not only far. I want to grow stronger. I want to pick a 5k and RACE it. I want to face running hills/mountains head-on. I want to run Magnolia. More than once.
I learned about this run from Running with the Buffalos and I’ve been intrigued ever since. Once I hit my 12 miler long run (in 2 weeks), I’m gonna head up there. In a sick way, I’m really excited. Wanna join me?
What are you doing this year to push yourself outside your comfort zone?
