New York Part 1: The City and Reunited BFFs

on

(aka, the. best. weekend. ever. part 1.)

Weez and I took a redeye into NYC early Friday morning. We spent the entire day (I’m talkin’ 7am till 7pm when we met up with Kelsey) exploring Manhattan and we had a blast!

Wandering through Central Park

After Central Park, we went to The MET (Metropolitan Museum of Art). We spent a good few hours learning about Egyptians, Oceania art (my fav), trying to appreciate Renaissance paintings, and just wandering all the exhibits. Then, we took the train down to Canal Street where we walked all around Chinatown, SoHo, and made our way to Little Italy for lunch.

We walked off the delish pesto gnocchi by heading down to the business district and the WTC site. It’s hard not to feel moved when you’re there. The skyline is hollow without those buildings.

We eventually hopped another train up to Times Square. The lights! The huge buildings! The crowds! The random people trying to sell you tickets to shows! It had been 5 years since I was last there, but not much has changed :) I love the hustle and bustle.

Times Square!

We shopped through the M&M and Hershey stores (I really had to restrain myself from buying 10lbs of chocolate), the Toys R’ Us, the Apple Store (chaos), FAO Schwarz (I wanted to buy a huge teddy bear, but I figured it couldn’t carry it on), and all the flashy clothing stores. We walked through Bryant Park and to Rockefeller Center to watch the ice skaters.

And then we realized something: Mood is in NYC. You know, the Mood – from Project Runway! I love that show, so naturally, we had to walk the 15 extra blocks out of our way to go in. The entire time I was in the store, I kept saying “Thank You Mood!” the way Tim Gunn always says it.

When Kelsey got off work, we met up at her insanely nice 34th floor condo. It was so so so great to see her. We had just the best night catching up, laughing, reminiscing stories, and dancing the night away. NYC night life may be too much for this mountain-girl to handle, but I can really enjoy this once or twice a year :)

Our time in NYC flew by so fast! Next thing we knew, we were waking up early to pick up the rental car, to head up to West Point for Cara’s wedding!

Part 2 of the Epic New York Weekend shall continue tomorrow!
