#25: SoCo!

Goal #25: Road trip to see one of my favorite bands play live in concert… check!

And what a road trip experience it was! 20 hours in a car, blasting music with the windows down, living off doritos and Sonic, a sketchy venue, traveling on a tight budget, borderline heat exhaustion while standing for 3 hours for the concert to begin, and a now-hoarse voice… TOTALLY WORTH IT.

I drove up to Steamboat on Friday night, and we left for SLC on Saturday morning. Western Colorado via I-40 is gorgeous, for the record.

We passed through Dinosaur, CO which (you guessed it) really, really prides itself in dino-ness. No joke, there were dino statues at every corner. Of course, I had to stop and take a picture.

We got there after about 7 hours of driving. We checked into a motel (let’s just say it was no Holiday Inn, and for you Woo folk, this place made Paradise look like The Bellagio). We toasted to the experience, had a few cold ones, and walked to the concert venue.

We wanted to get as close to the stage as possible, so we got there 3 hours early. (overkill? I think not.)

(Side note: I should have had more water before hand because holydehydrationbatman I thought I was going to pass out. But I downed some water moments before SoCo came out and I was ready to rally.)

I took this picture on my phone and zero zoom. Yes, I was that close (2nd row, baby!). Yes, it was totally awesome.

They played all the classics that I hoped they would. I sang my heart out and became bff with the big, hairy, sweaty people smooshed up against me.

As an encore, they played Konstantine and I swear every person in the crowd was singing along.

The 7.5  hour back to Steamboat, followed by the 3.5 hour drive to Boulder was 110% worth it.

Except, waking up Monday morning was a little rough. But I’d do it all over again in a heart beat :)

Erin you should write a book. Emily gave me the barefoot running book (can’t remember the title for the life of me), but it totally reminds me of you. Especially the anecdotes about the people who just “up and do things that are awesome”. YOU, my friend, are this person!

Look who’s talkin’, Mel! You inspire me everyday to be a better, faster, stronger runner (Ms. 3:24 Marathoner)! I miss you, move to CO? Please? PS. that book, is it Born to Run? You’ll love it!
