I’m really excited for my weekend plans! Tomorrow, I’ll be checking off #8 on my list of 24 before 24! Some friends and I are going to hike Grays and Torrys, two 14,000ft mountains here in Colorado. Grays and Torrys are right next to each other, separated by a hike-able saddle, so it’s really neat that we’ll be able to hit two 14-ers in one hike!
The last 14er I hiked was Longs Peak (14,259ft), but I didn’t actually make it all the way to the summit. The backside of that mountain – when you get really close to the summit – is pretty gnarly (aka, lots of scary exposure and scrambling over rocks) and I wasn’t comfortable going any farther, so I stopped early. But the views from the popular turn around spot called the “keyhole” were incredible.
My first fall out here, I hiked another 14-er called Mt. Bierstadt (14,060ft). That hike was gorgeous and a lot less technical. Like Longs, the views were just breathtaking and I remember thinking to myself “wow, I can’t wait to summit another one of these!”
So tomorrow morning, I’ll be wakin’ up well before the crack of dawn to drive to the trailhead, to embark on another amazing 14-er experience. I can’t wait! Oh, and you better believe I’ll be bringing my camera… look out for pictures next week!
I hope you have a great weekend as well!
