Cars in Ward, CO

A while back, my friend Sarah and I ventured west to Ward, Colorado to find what they are most known for: junker cars, abandoned alongside the road. Perfect for practicing with our DSLRs.

I love the two lenses I own (50mm f/1.8 and 18-55 IS kit), but I’m quite jealous of the sweet new wide angle lens one of my post docs recently bought. Perhaps, maybe someday in the future (when I’m not a grad student!) I’ll invest in one… Till then, I love what I’m learning to do with these ones.

Have I mentioned that I love photography?

Of all the photos of cars, I like the one of the oven the best. Your pics gave me a flashback to a time when I saw a coffee table on the curb by a condo I used to live in with a sign on it that said, “Free to a good home.”

Your photos are incredible! I have always loved photography and I just got my first DLSR (Nikon) a couple months ago and have been having a blast learning it! What kind do you have and do you have any photography tips? Again, beautiful shots!!!

Thanks Maggie! I have a Canon EOS Rebel XSi. For this photosesh, I switched between using my 50mm f/1.8 and my 18-55mm kit lenses. As for photography tips? I shoot mainly in aperture priority and I like to mess around with where I choice to focus (I love the bokeh created from narrow depth of field shots). I look for contrasting patterns, textures, and colors to capture. Honestly, I gain a lot of inspiration from checking out other photographers’ blogs (see my Blogs I Love page), so that’s a great place to look for more tips! Happy shooting!
