A Spring Update on 24 Before 24

on

When I first started this blog, my very first entry was a list. A list of 24 things I’d like to accomplish before turning 24. I realized that I haven’t been writing about those goals lately, so I wanted to fill you in on where I’m at.

I have yet to check off another “goal”, but I have however, been working towards many of them over the past few months.

#2: Wreck a Journal. I ordered my Wreck This Journal from Amazon just before Christmas break. I was excited to crack open the book and see what I had in store, but was mildly disappointed. The whole concept of “Wreck This Journal” is to inspire creativity and teach you not to fear destruction (as showcased in the first direction: break the spine of the book) and getting messy (ie. finger painting in one of the pages). They say only boring people get bored, so maybe only non-creative people would find this book uninspiring? I love scrap booking and blogging but I’m scientist, not an art student… I should give it a fair shot and play around with it some more. Then I’ll write about the experience. So stay tuned for that one.

#10: Learn How to French Braid My Own Hair. My roomie tried teaching me a few weeks ago, and I have to say, it ain’t easy. I feel so awkward with my hands and my arms get really tired. I somehow am really bad good at French backwards-braiding, where I have the braid inverted, but that just doesn’t look cute. So, I’m still learning. I’ll probably need another training sesh soon.

#11: Learn One Song On The Guitar. I’ll be honest, I haven’t picked up the guitar in a few weeks. I have the song chords memorized and can play them relatively smoothly – but just real real slow. So I need to work on speeding things up a bit before I can announce that I’ve officially learned a song on the guitar :)

#16: Pass 4 Cumulative Exams. It’s a grad school thing. They’re these 1 hour exams we have to take on the first Saturday of every month until we pass 6 (before failing 11). They’re not easy (understatement). And they kind of stress me out (huge understatement). I made my goal 4 because I’m not sure I’ll be able to pass all 6 before the summer. But the good news is that as of right now, I have 3 down! When I hit 4, I’m celebrating.

#19: Donate to Operation Jack. I suppose I can check this one off the list, but I know I’m not done donating yet. Sam is a dedicated father/runner and his 6 year old son, Jack, is autistic. Sam is running 60 marathons in 2010 to raise money and awareness for Train 4 Autism. If you don’t know about him yet, you should read about Jack, Sam, and his mission here. You can also donate here.

#20: Go To 5 New Restaurants in Town. I shouldn’t say “new”, I should say, different. Ones I haven’t been to before! This goal is inspiring me to go out and try new stuff, which has been fun! I’ve got 3 restaurants covered (with pictures, reviews, and rankings!) and once I get 2 more, I’ll show you which places I picked :)

As for this weekend, I’m really excited for my 15 mile long run and I think I might go skiing, too! Have a fun weekend, guys! See ya on Monday,

~Erin

These are great goals girl! I did a similar list, but still haven’t checked any off of mine either. :)

Good luck on your 15 miler. It’s going to be a yucky weekend with all of this snow! I hope you are doing it on Sunday.
