Happy St. Patty’s Day!

I was much too busy having fun spending time with my family last weekend to go running. Oops. I can take a few days off, right? ‘sides, I wanted to take marathon training this time around (opposed to last year, when I trained with high mileage for the Boulder Marathon) much lighter anyways.

I got back into the swing of things this week and went running yesterday and this morning. And both runs felt awesome. Yesterday, I went for 60 minutes and according to MapMyRun.com, I ran 7.5 miles. Wahoo! I was running faster than I usual go, but it felt good to turn the legs over. I definitely don’t think I could hold that pace for 26.2 miles, but it’s nice to know I can crank out 7.5 miles at that pace. This morning was another solid run: 5 miles in 45 minutes. I felt real good. The kind of “good” where you don’t want to stop ’cause it’s just so nice out and everything (mechanically) seems to be working just right.

I think the weather helps too. In case you aren’t already jealous that I live in the most awesomest place in the US… it’s sunny, there’s not a cloud in the sky, and 65 degrees out right now. You can’t beat this weather :) It’s like this almost every day too. Yeah, I’m super lucky to live here. Yay Colorado!

I’ve got a 15 miler planned for this weekend, which should be great. I need to go out and buy more chocolate Gu because the strawberry-banana ones I have in my pantry just aren’t that great (in my personal opinion). Chocolate Gu is my fav. It tastes like brownie batter, and seriously, 10 miles into a run nothing tastes better than gooey chocolaty goodness. Are chocolate Gus one of the reasons I love going for long runs? Maybe :)

I hope you’re wearing something green today! I’m wearing a green shirt to sport my Irish pride. Happy St. Patrick’s Day, everyone!

  1. You are correct, GU is delicious. Moreover, I approve of any caffeinated pancake-syrup-like product. But why slurp caffeinated syrup when you could be munching caffeinated fruit snacks? http://guenergy.com/products/gu-chomps/faqs

That’s not a bad pace for 7.5 miles. For that distance, that’s not just a sprint. That’s a pretty good run to hold that pace.

Re the GUs, I had apple cinnamon Hammer Gels over the weekend and they were AWESOME. Still don’t know what my favorite is, although those chocolate GUs are pretty darn good.
