The sky is blue and cloudless, the air is crisp, and the Flatirons are decorated with a hearty layer of white snow. And I’m sitting here at my desk enjoying a blueberry bagel and a banana with almond butter. (If you haven’t tried almond butter yet, seriously, go out and buy some. It’ll change your life.)
Today is a gorgeous day not only because of the weather, but because I had a great workout to start the day out right. I hopped out of bed at 6am and hit the pool for a 1 mile swim (1600m, or 64 laps). Even though it’s been two weeks since my last swim, I can tell I’m getting stronger in the water. Well, it’s not hard to improve from where I first started (only being able to do 2 laps at a time). I swam the first half mile (nonstop!), paused for a minute or two to catch my breathe, then swam the second half mile (nonstop!). It felt so good. Working makes everything better.
My mom asked me this morning “how many laps does it take to feel on cruise control?” and the truth is, I never feel like I’m on cruise control. It’s always a challenge. My breathing starts to relax after ~8 laps (200m) and then I feel less uncomfortable in general after ~12 (300m), but I never really feel like I could just go on and on forever. Maybe one day I’ll be able to slip into cruise control while swimming, just like I can with running? Either way, swimming is a great workout and I love how it has zero impact on my knees.
Thanks for stoppin’ by and have a terrific Tuesday :)
