Done with classes… FOREVER!

Welp, yesterday was my nanoscience final exam. And now I am DONE with classes for the rest of my entire academic career. I will never have to take a class again! EVER! And it feels goooooooood. How many years of education has this been? Preschool, kindergarten, 5 years of elementary school, 3 years of middle school, 4 in HS, 4 in college, I’m in my 2nd year of graduate school = 20 years of educational classes, homework, studying, working, writing. Only 3 more years of graduate school to finish up a PhD and BAM! I’ll be done. If only it’s as easy as that sounds…

Chemistry is NOT easy and grad school has challenged me in ways I can’t even explain. There are days when nothing seems to work and I just want to give up and quit, but that’s what grad school is about. I should talk more about grad school, should anyone be interested in pursuing it, because there are so many things I wish I had been told before coming – like how stupid it makes you feel and how it’s okay to fail (because you do, often). But I’ll save that for another post :)

Despite the ups and downs, science is a lot of fun. So many good times, both here in grad school and back during my undergrad…

Poor form, Erin, science should stay in the hood...

Some days, science is tasty and I get to make Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream for curious, excited, elementary students…

Mmm, Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream

Science has introduced me to a ton of friends who are a lot of fun to goof off with…

I spent my entire senior year writing about science, for my independent study on chemistry research I worked on for almost 2 years. 86 page thesis, baby! I didn’t sleep for days trying to finish up that badboy, can’t you tell?

Science research has even brought me to conventions in Chicago and New Orleans.

So yeah, I’ve had my ups and downs, but at least for now… I’m glad I’m here :)

P.S. I just want to give a shout out to my best friend, Niki, on her birthday today! Happy Bday, girl! Love you and can’t wait to see you in two weeks!!!
